Privacy Policy
Last Updated: March 1, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Scan2Rate App ("Scan2Rate," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use the Scan2Rate mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").
By using the Service, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Personal Information We Collect
We may collect the following categories of information:
Account information: email address, display name, password (hashed), and basic profile data you choose to provide.
Usage data: app interactions, pages/screens viewed, search queries, items scanned, time and date of activity, and diagnostic logs.
Device and technical data: device model, OS version, app version, language, approximate location (e.g., country or city), IP address, and unique device identifiers.
Content you provide: product photos, ratings, written reviews, favourites, comments, and any metadata you submit.
Partner data: if you access Partner Content or follow links to third‑party services (e.g., YouTube), those services may provide us with limited information consistent with their own policies (for example, whether a link was clicked).
Support communications: information you provide when you contact us (e.g., support requests, feedback).
We do not intentionally collect sensitive medical, financial, or government‑ID information, and we ask that you do not include such information in photos or reviews.
3. How We Use Personal Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
To operate, maintain, and provide the features of the Service (e.g., show you product images, ratings, and your favourites).
To personalize your experience, such as showing relevant products, remembering your preferences, and surfacing content by region or language.
To communicate with you, including responding to inquiries, sending service‑related notices, and providing updates about new features or changes to our terms or policies.
To monitor and improve the Service, including analytics, debugging, and security monitoring.
To prevent, detect, and investigate fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Use.
To comply with legal obligations, enforce our rights, and protect our users and the public.
We will only use personal information for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances, and we will seek additional consent if we use it for purposes materially different from those described here.
4. Legal Bases (where applicable)
Where privacy laws require a legal basis (e.g., under GDPR for EU users), we rely on:
Performance of a contract (to provide the Service); legitimate interests (e.g., securing and improving the Service, preventing abuse) where not outweighed by your rights; and your consent, particularly for optional features such as marketing communications or certain analytics.
5. Cookies and Similar Technologies
If you use our website or web‑based components, we may use cookies, SDKs, and similar technologies to remember preferences, maintain sessions, and perform analytics. You can adjust your browser or device settings to limit cookies, but some features may not function properly.
6. How We Share Personal Information
We may share information in the following situations:
Service providers: with trusted third‑party vendors that perform services on our behalf, such as cloud hosting, analytics, crash reporting, customer support tools, or email delivery. They are authorized to use personal information only as necessary to provide services to us.
Other users: your display name, product photos, ratings, and reviews will be visible to other users of the Service, consistent with the features you use.
Partners: we may share aggregated or de‑identified information with commercial partners about product engagement (e.g., number of scans or favourites). We do not share your contact information with partners for their own direct marketing without your consent.
Legal and safety: we may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, legal process, or governmental request; to enforce our Terms of Use; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Scan2Rate, our users, or others.
Business transfers: if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards and continued protection consistent with this Policy.
We do not sell your personal information in the sense of exchanging it for money; if future laws consider certain sharing a "sale," we will provide any required notices and choices.
7. International Transfers
Personal information may be stored and processed in Canada and other countries where we or our service providers maintain facilities. These locations may have data‑protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction. We take reasonable steps to ensure that any international transfers comply with applicable law and that your information remains protected.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
In general:
Account and profile data are kept for the life of your account.
Product photos, ratings, and reviews may be retained and displayed until you delete them or request removal, or until we remove them under our Terms of Use.
Backup copies may persist for a limited period after deletion for security and continuity purposes.
9. Security
We use reasonable physical, technical, and administrative safeguards designed to protect personal information against loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction (for example, encryption in transit, limited access controls, and secure development practices).
However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
Access and obtain a copy of the personal information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information; request deletion of your account and certain personal information, subject to legal or legitimate business exceptions; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
You can exercise many of these rights through in‑app settings (e.g., updating profile information, deleting photos/reviews, or deleting your account) or by contacting us at support@scan2rate.app. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
11. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will take reasonable steps to delete it. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided personal information may contact us at support@scan2rate.app.
12. Third‑Party Links and Services
The Service may contain links to third‑party websites, apps, and services (including YouTube and partner sites). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties, and their collection and use of your information is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one.
13. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where required by law, provide additional notice (for example, by email or in‑app notification). Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of the updated Policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
